Setting Up Your Creative Space

When people ask me where my writing ideas come from, I end up telling them I believe there is a place we cannot see where ideas live. The ideas channel down to us when we are open to them. So how do I open up to them? I created a space of my own.

The Writing Desk

It’s nothing fancy, but it suits me. I found a small writing desk at a local garage sale that I absolutely had to have. I instantly fell in love with it. I had been looking for something just like it. I try to keep it uncluttered, so I’m less likely to get distracted. This keeps me in the writing flow.

Filling My Space with Light and Warmth

In the winter, I turn on a HappyLight—well, to keep me happy. It provides light that we lose during the colder months. I also want to keep warm as I look out my window at the snow piled high, so I sit on an infrared heating pad with jade and tourmaline crystals embedded into it. This heating pad also helps with any lower back pain from sitting for long periods of time.

Clearing Space

I give my space a boost with crystals, too. To foster love, light, and positive energy, I have quartz crystal clusters. To clear my space of negative energy, I have a selenite lamp. I also keep a citrine tree in the left corner for creativity and success.

Moving the Ideas from My Head to Paper

To get me in the mood to write and be expressive, I spray Aveda’s Chakra 5 on me and around my writing room. This smells so good and lifts my spirit.

Nourishment Keeps Me Writing

I fill my “Best Mom Ever” mug with coffee in the morning and tea in the afternoon. The mug sits on a coaster my daughter made for me. I also stay hydrated with flavored water. I’m not a big plain water fan. Nuun is a lifesaver for me. When I need a quick pick-me-up, I’ll grab a handful of mixed nuts and some dark chocolate. I have a few other great, healthy snacks to share, but I’ll save that for another post.

That’s about it! Now, I’d love to hear what’s in your creative space!
