Sometimes life throws obstacles in your path and you get stuck. You may have a problem you need to solve or a situation that needs to be worked out.
For me, I recently encountered writer’s block. The skeleton of the story was there. But day after day, I struggled with filling in the meat.
Against my desire to meet a self-imposed deadline, I set it aside for a week. Like magic, inspiration started flowing again. Ideas came to me in dreams, as I drove, as I walked, and in the shower.
When I wasn’t forcing myself to think about the story anymore, the story found me. And, I was more productive because I was writing again instead of staring at the computer screen for hours.
Moral of the story: Sometimes the path forward means changing the scenery. You’ll save a lot of time and frustration.
