Music on Your Mind

Listening to music is an excellent way to stay motivated and inspired. When I was a kid in school, we learned “Greatest Love of All” by Whitney Houston. To this day, I can sing most of the lyrics. This song gave me hope for a bright future. Yesterday morning my daughter got up singing “A Million Dreams.” This made my heart sing! She is learning this song in music class and it gives me hope for her bright future, too.

Another song that has always played a major part in my life is “Time for Me to Fly” by REO Speedwagon. It’s the chorus that gets me fired up. I hear it on the radio at the exact time I need to make a change in my life.

Songs can also remind you of a person or a special time in your life. My husband and I have made “Don’t Stop Believin'” by Journey our song. I’m not really from a small town, but I am from a tight-knit community that could be considered a small town. And he’s from outside of Detroit, so it works for us. The chorus is inspirational and lifts me up.

A song that speaks to my soul and my daughter’s is “Brand New Day” by Trevor Hall. We often play it in the morning and dance around the house to it. I mean full-out jumping around like two crazy kids.

You can make one song your motto to live by for the year. It’s a great reminder to keep on keeping on. I’ve decided this year my song is “This is Me.” I jammed out to it on replay in my workout this morning.

“I am who I’m meant to be, this is me
Look out ’cause here I come
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me”

What songs fire you up?
